World community has disbursed $338.40 million for early recovery of flood-affected people in Pakistan against total pledges of $1233.35 million. According to a report, as on September 8, United States (US) has pledged $154.50 million grant for relief of flood affected people in which $62 million aid in forms of goods and medicines was disbursed through UN/INGOs.
But US has not disbursed any money so far. United Kingdom (UK) has committed $67 million aid in forms of goods including tents, shelter, kits, water containers, blankets and medicines but the goods worth $48 million were disbursed. The UK /DFID has committed $115 million in cash to be disbursed through UN and NGOs but it has not disbursed any money so far.
Similarly, Saudi Arabia has disbursed $5.29 million aid in cash out of total commitment of $105.29 million. It has also pledged $60 million worth goods, while $40 million were received. The other countries which have not disbursed pledged aid so far include; Denmark, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Belgium, India, Oman, Switzerland, Netherlands, Asian Development Bank (ADB), New Zealand, Bangladesh, Morocco, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Ireland, Russia, Luxembourg, Brazil, Opec Fund, Czech Rep, Singapore, Nepal, Greece, Estonia, Thailand, Poland, Sri Lanka and Hungry.
Pakistan received $53.31 million aid in grant and $285.09 million in-kind ie, food items, tents and other goods for recovery of flood-hit people of Pakistan. European Union (EU) has committed 87.50 million but not disbursed so far. But EU has disbursed goods worth $20 million of the total commitment of $67.5 million.
Various countries including Denmark $12 million, UAE $7 million, Germany $18.75 million, Australia sent two planes of goods, Turkey $16 million, Japan $0.48 million, China $11.5 million, Kuwait 10 million, Italy $5.5 million, Spain $4.9 million, France 1.2 million, Belgium $2.54 million, Morocco $1 million, Egypt $1.45 million, and others countries have given aid of goods to Pakistan.
Turkmenistan has delivered 40 tons of relief goods for flood affected areas to NDMA on 28-08-2010. The package includes milk, baby food, condensed milk, medicines, pure drinking water and other necessary first aid items.
According to a report released by Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Wednesday, 8.6 million persons had been affected due to devastation of floods triggered by monsoon rains. As many as 1637 persons died, while 2428 persons sustained injuries. The FFC reveals that 4.3 million acres cropped area had been affected, 159,617 cattle heads perished due to floods and 11, 040 villages have been affected.
