Secretary General Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jehangir Badar on Monday said PPP Punjab has so far dispatched 150 trucks of relief goods besides collecting Rs 12 million for the flood-affected people. He was talking to media after presiding over PPP Punjab meeting, held to review flood relief activities.
In the meeting, he said, Federal Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar represented Central Executive Committee (CEC). Chaudhry Manzoor, Acting President PPP Punjab Sami Ullah Khan and newly appointed PPP Lahore President Samina Khalid Ghurki were also present in the meeting.
Sami Ullah Khan said party has an internal audit system to verify the amounts collected for flood-affected people. Expressing his views, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar said people have contributed to the PPP relief activities 'beyond expectations'. He criticised media for projecting the impression that it was only Pakistan Army involved in the relief work.
He posed the question how Pakistan Army can act independently, adding that army is carrying out relief work on the instructions of federal government. He said no one from among the civilians was possessing boats and helicopters and it was only Pakistan Army fully equipped for such rescue operations. It was a quite a wrong impression that only Pakistan Army was busy in relief work and every Pakistani, as a matter of fact, was on the forefront, he maintained. Badar said the meeting was also attended by district and tehsil level leadership. He said no party office bearer criticised the party leadership for pressing them to contribute from their own pockets in the flood relief activities.
