FIFA President Joseph Sepp Blatter approved FIFA Development Officer Colombo Manilal Fernando and FIFA Development Manager Asia David Borja in two-men FIFA Flood Inspection Team, which will visit Pakistan in the beginning of October 2010 to meet Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President and to assess the flood damage and to plan the rehabilitation work for the survivors of this natural calamity.
In a letter addressed to PFF President, Blatter said: "I have been following news of the horrendous flood and I was touched by the information you gave me of the flooding disaster and the current situation in Pakistan during our meet in Zurich on 31 August at FIFA Secretariat immediately after FIFA Disciplinary Committee Meet."
"Following the report of the FIFA team, a request for assistance to Pakistan will then be made to the FIFA Executive Committee via FIFA Finance Committee." added Blatter who said that FIFA want to see smiles back on faces of those peoples severely affected by flood, without doubt the most destructive disaster in Pakistan's history.
It may be noted that FIFA has a social role to play throughout the world, one that extends beyond the boundaries of football. "The infrastructural damage caused by the floods is even more appalling than the dreadful damage caused to your country by the earthquake disaster five years ago. In the face of such tragedies, it is imperative that your country receives the supports of the international community," said Blatter.
