Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has expressed his firm resolve to earn more laurels for the country with his hard work. He said this while briefly talking to news and media persons on his arrival here at the Allama Iqbal International Airport on Wednesday after appearing in the men's doubles event of the US Open Tennis Tournament 2010.
Although Aisam lost both mixed doubles and men's doubles final, but his remarks at the prize distribution ceremony at US Open that "We are a friendly, loving, caring people and want peace as much you guys want. May God love us all" brought him to light, as he proved himself as true ambassador of Pakistan and a role model for others to follow.
Aisam and his Czech partner Kveta Peschke went down to Americans Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan in the mixed doubles final of the US Open on Friday, before Aisam and Bopanna lost to Bob and Mike Bryan in the men's doubles final.
In his brief chat with media persons, Aisam expressed gratitude to Pakistani nation and has vowed to earn good name for the country. He said he is happy and satisfied with his performance in the US Open Tennis Tournament. Amid stringent security measures, Aisam could not talk much and ultimately security personnel led him to his vehicle from where he left for his home.
Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi is the first Pakistani to reach the knockout stage of a grand slam event. Aisam's mother Nohsheen Ehtesham who remained Pakistan women's national champion for many years told reporters that her son proved himself as true Pakistani and role model for others. She said Aisam has brought honour to the nation with extraordinary performances in US Open.
Achievements of Aisamul Haq had made every Pakistani hold proud at a time when the nation needed good news, she said, adding, the best investment in tennis was to encourage youngsters both girls and boys. She said Aisam had proved a good ambassador for Pakistan than many career diplomats. He delivered a very mature and intelligent speech at the prize distribution ceremony.
Aisam's sister said on the occasion that her brother proved himself as true Pakistani and we feel proud over him. She said Aisam had made every Pakistani hold proud at a time when the nation needed good news. Earlier, Aisam was accorded rousing reception on his arrival here at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. He was warmly received by officials of Pakistan Tennis Federation, Pakistan Sports Board, tennis players, his family members and fans of tennis star. As soon as Aisam come out of the Arrival Lounge, people started shouting slogans in his favour as well as Pakistan "Pakistan Zindabad".
