British police investigating the fatal stabbing of Dr Imran Farooq in London Saturday appealed for witnesses to come forward. Dr Farooq, a senior member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), died from multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head, police said, quoting the result of a post-mortem.
The 50-year-old had been on his way home from work when the attack happened outside his home in north London Thursday. No arrests have so far been made. "Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or saw the attack." W're going door to door in a bid to find out who killed politician, said a Scotland Yard spokesman.
The investigation was passed late Friday from Scotland Yard's homicide and serious crime wing to its counterterrorism command, indicating that detectives feared the crime was politically motivated. Dr Farooq had been living in London since 1999 after leaving Pakistan when he was charged with criminal offences in connection with the alleged strong-arm tactics of the party he co-founded in Karachi.
