The concluding ceremony of an international conference on 'water management' was organised in Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro. Dr Javaid R Laghari, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) was the chief guest on the occasion.
Expressing his views, Dr Laghari said water management issue is important for both the developing and developed countries of the world. He observed that at the eve of supreme floods in the country, the conference is time worthy for researchers, statesmen and policymakers of the world. The research presented in the conference is of significance by all means.
On the occasion, he deliberated on the role of HEC in co-ordination and support in the research being done in the varsities of public and private sectors. He mentioned many projects launched by HEC under the criteria of scientific and industrial co-operational research.
Concluding his remarks, HEC chairman said water management would help the developed and developing countries in their agricultural, municipal and other endeavours. He thanked the organisers of the conference and congratulated the authorities for organising a successful international moot.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Professor Dr Abdul Qadeer Rajput thanked the researchers from all over the world. He further explained that the varsity is contributing research for current issues and providing guidelines for researchers and policymakers.
He mentioned that the varsity has so far produced more than 70 PhDs and around 500 Masters degree holders in different disciplines, maintaining quality education. Earlier, Dr Rasool Bux Mahar, Co-chairman of the international conference and DelPHE mentioned the achievements of the Project.
Dr Iqbal Bhangar, Director, National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry and Co-ordinator DelPHE Project University of Sindh, presented a detailed report about the conference. Dr Fayyaz Memon, Co-ordinator DelPHE Project, Exeter University UK, talked lively from UK through video conferencing and presented some guidelines for the future planning.
Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university presented concluding remarks and details of the presentations and the research presented in the conference. Dr Merunisa Memon, Co-chaior of this DePHE project submitted the recommendations of the conference. Dr Abdullah Khalique Ansari, Chairman Chemical Engineering Department and Leader of the DelPHE project thanked the participants and organising committee for successful organisation of the moot.
He also thanked the authorities of HEC, British Council Pakistan, and Department for International Development (DFID), UNESCO, Water Aid, COMSTECH, UNDP, UN Habitant and Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) to support the event.
The concluding session of the event was attended by others professors, vice chancellors, institutional heads, and representatives of local and international research and academic organisations and postgraduate students of various varsities and institutions.
