"Stop Trafficking of Children & Young People" campaign was launched here by 'The Body Shop' on Monday. The brand has appealed all Pakistanis to show solidarity against trafficking of children by visiting Body Shop local stores to sign 'Stop Trafficking Petition'.
Signed petition of the campaign will be sent to the legislators to expedite adoption of "Child Protection Bill", tabled before the parliament. The Body Shop has requested all responsible citizens of Pakistan to be a part of this global effort to put an end to child trafficking.
To further support the campaign, all proceeds of Body Shop's "Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream" will go directly to the funds allocated for the overall child trafficking campaign in Pakistan. These funds would be used in Pakistan particularly targeting the most vulnerable children, such as those in emergency situations, displaced or those in refugee camps, those without birth registration, or without parental care.
Keeping in view that not enough activities are being carried out to address the problem, The Body Shop and its partner NGOs launched the petition, which will be presented to Pakistan government, urging it to strengthen legislation and protection measures.
To effectively run the said campaign, Body Shop is working with its local partners including Pakistan Paediatric Association, Pahchan, Konpal and Working Group.
The main objective of this campaign is to ensure that community-based prevention programmes are reaching at-risk populations to stop trafficking of children and young people, ensure that international legal standards for protecting children and young people from trafficking are incorporated in national legal framework policies, and specialised government services for children and young people are integrated in national policies. Through this campaign in Pakistan, the company wants to highlight that a comprehensive legal reform is urgently needed to combat trafficking of children and other forms of sexual exploitation of children.-PR
