Centre for Promotion of Imports from developing countries, Netherlands, Ministry of Development Co-operation (CBI) and Skill Development Council, will jointly hold a two-day workshop in Lahore on 'Casting and Pricing for SME Engineering Sector Firms' on December 13 and 14, 2010. The workshop will be conducted by a strong faculty consisting of Jan Oude Elferink, Martin Bitter and Imitaz Rastgar, CBI Expert in Pakistan.
Engineering Development Board sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that the SME engineering sector companies are always under stress and face lack of skills to workout cost of a sub-contract part or sub assembly. They need to be correct with the 'right price' while still ensuring that the deal is profitable for them. Often the owners lack these skills and also do not have staff, which is trained.
With the ever increasing energy costs and sky-rocketing raw material prices, many vendor companies are unable to convince their customers on the genuineness of their claims to price increase. Skill Development Council Islamabad has identified this skill gap and together, with the CBI, has put together a course for owner managers and executives of the engineering sector SMEs from auto parts, machine building, pipe and process manufacturing sector and sub contract manufacturers.
Sources said that the main purpose of this workshop is to build capacity of SME engineering sector companies through an interactive process, knowledge transfer, EU business cases; individuals work on real life automotive business cases.
The workshop will be very interactive and comprises real life cases as well as practical experience with original equipment manufacturing (OEM) and RFQ process, wherein participants will gather knowledge and practical know-how with respect to calculations, negotiations and price defending. Participants have been encouraged to make an overview of the cost price calculation methods in operation in their own company prior to coming to the training.
