South Africa on Tuesday named uncapped left-handed batsman Colin Ingram in their squad for limited overs series against Zimbabwe and Pakistan. Ingram, 25, was the leading run-scorer in both South Africa's senior domestic limited overs competitions last season.
The selectors retained another young left-hander in David Miller, 21, who was capped on a tour of the West Indies earlier this year. But there was no place for veterans Mark Boucher and Herschelle Gibbs, who both lost their places in the one-day side towards the end of last season. Boucher remains a member of South Africa's Test squad.
Left-arm fast bowler Wayne Parnell, who has not played since a tour of India in February because of a groin injury, is due to return to action in both the limited overs series and a two-Test series against Pakistan.
South Africa will play Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates from October 27 to November 24, with a Twenty20 international and five one- day internationals preceding the Test matches. Zimbabwe will tour South Africa to play two Twenty20 internationals and three one-day internationals from October 8 to 22. Graeme Smith, who announced recently that he was stepping down from the captaincy of the Twenty20 team, was included in the squad for the 20-overs matches although Johan Botha will captain the side.
Squads: Test squad v Pakistan: Graeme Smith (captain), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
