An autobiography of Admiral Muhammad Shariff titled "Admiral''s Diary" will inculcate reading habits among youngsters and go a long way in highlighting the significance of Pakistan''s maritime interest and warranted safeguards for their security to the masses.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir NI(M) as chief guest praised the efforts of the author for taking the time to write a book which provides guiding principles for the future naval leaders. Talking to mediamen, Admiral Noman Bashir said that the objective of construction of Gwadar Port was not achieved and there is need to take proper steps to make it functional.
Replying a query, he said Pakistan has identified with China the possibility of co-operation in the field of construction of submarine, bigger war ships, acquiring modern weapons and equipment. Both the countries are enjoying good friendly relations while Pakistan will opt the viable options for further co-operation, Admiral said.
Admiral Noman urged all serving and retired naval officers present to take lead from the veteran and contribute in writing books and articles to highlight great maritime potential possessed by Pakistan and its exploitation. He said that such endeavours will not only inculcate healthy reading habits amongst the younger lot.
Admiral Muhammad Shariff has joined Royal Indian navy in 1936 as sailor in the Communication Branch and witnessed battle actions on the high seas in Atlantic during World War-II. After partition, he joined Pakistan Navy and saw active combat during 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. In 1975, he was appointed as Chief of the Naval Staff in the rank of Vice Admiral. Later, he became Pakistan''s first Four Star Admiral in 1976. After retirement, the Admiral was also appointed as Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission in 1986.
