Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa has said that the government is taking measures for the development of far-flung and remote areas of the province as well as for the poverty alleviation. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of implementation on development projects in southern Punjab districts under Southern Punjab Development Programme (SPDP), disclosed an official here on Friday.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Malik Ahmed Ali Aulak and Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa, MNA Sardar Saif-ud-din Khan Khosa, MPAs from southern Punjab districts, Commissioner DG Khan, high ranking officials of health, education, agriculture, planning and development, finance and local government besides project directors.
Khosa said the provincial government is utilising all available resources for the rehabilitation of flood affectees, however funds reserved under SPDP would be utilised for the same purposes. "In order to improve the means of transportation, road network was being improved in far-flung areas so that masses might get ample opportunity of economy development and the government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to achieve the targets," he added.
According to him, elected representatives have been involved to point out the development schemes in their representative constituencies for uplift of socio-economic status of the people concerned. However, the elected representatives should complete developmental schemes in southern Punjab districts worth Rs 15 million under SPDP. To achieve the targets the government is providing additional funds for the development of underdeveloped areas besides co-operation of Asian Development Bank donor agencies is also being sought.
