The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has installed tracking system in its field vehicles to improve Agency's efficiency and minimise fuel pilferage. According to a Wasa's spokesman here on Saturday, in the first phase tracking system has been installed in 30 jetting and suction vehicles.
The system will allow Wasa high-ups to monitor movement of its vehicle from Wasa headquarters. It will monitor opening of fuel tank of a vehicle, how many times engine was started or switched off and whether or not the vehicle plied on the route stated in the log book. The engine of the vehicle would cease to function if it would move beyond the geographical limits of Wasa.
Talks were under way with the tracking company to add more features to the systems to be installed in the remaining vehicles," he added. "Also, Wasa has decreased daily fuel quota for 158 jetting and suction units, excavators, dumpers besides tractor-trolleys which have been decreased from 40 litres to 30 litres. The reduction will save Wasa Rs 110,600 per day.
Special staff has also been deputed at designated filling stations to stop diesel pilferage. There were complaints that the drivers in collaboration with the filling station staff used to get cash in exchange of the diesel receipt for vehicles," he added.Meanwhile, Wasa has decided to recruit 29 officers on contract basis.
