District Administrator Tando Muhammad Khan Ali Ahmed Lund has appreciated services of British Petroleum (BPP) Pakistan for the health and education sectors of the district under its corporate social responsibility, saying investment by BPP in the sectors will ultimately result in bringing positive change for the poor people of the district.
He expressed these views on the occasion of inauguration of the newly constructed building of Basic Health Unit (BHU) and handing over of an ambulance and medicines to the management of Village Khan Muhammad Veghanal, District Tando Muhammad Khan by BPP.
The BHU was constructed at a cost of Rs 45,00,000/- while medical equipment and furniture worth Rs 7,70,000/- were also provided to make the facility full functional. BPP also donated ambulance and medicines worth Rs 36,18,287/- for the facility.
Speaking on the occasion, BPP Support Services Manager Dr Amer Azim Daudpota said BPP is committed to bring about positive change in the lives of people of its concession area, saying enhancing access to better health services is an essential part of BPP's ongoing community development initiatives.
He informed that during recent floods, BPP provided food and medicines worth Rs 51,68,000/- to 323 flood-affected families settled in different relief camps of district Tando Muhammad Khan. BPP also provided ration worth 0.25 million US dollars to the 45,000 flood-affected people settled in different relief camps of wight districts of Sindh including Thatta, Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad.
Dr Daudpota further informed that an amount of one million US dollars has been earmarked by BPP Foundation, which will be utilised through International Federation of Red Cross and Pakistan Red Crescent Society for the rehabilitation of flood-affected people of Sindh.
He assured that BPP, as a responsible corporation, is committed to the welfare of the communities in its concession area through social investment programmes. The company has supported numerous initiatives in district Tando Muhammad Khan in health, education, income generation and technical training.
These, he added, include funding for traditional birth attendants' training at taluka Tando Ghulam Hyder and establishment of the first girls' school at Village Siddique Zaur etc. The projects executed are solid examples of BPP's commitment and efforts for the people of Tando Muhammad Khan and other districts.
Later, Dr Daudpota handed over keys of ambulance and medicines to District Administrator Tando Muhammad Khan Ali Ahmed Lund and EDO Health Dr Kazim Raza Shah. On the occasion, BPP Community Relation Administrators Shaz Muneer Keeryo and Ali Abbas Mirza and Community Relation Officer Kashif Fayyaz Awan and local notables were also present.
