Islamabad Police arrested 2702 criminals, including 532 for possessing illegal arms, 106 for murder, 146 for attempt to murder, 297 for rape and kidnapping, 321 for dacoities, 513 for drug trafficking, 96 proclaimed offenders and 191 court absconders during its ongoing anti-outlaw campaign.
Police have also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition, stolen and tampered vehicles, stolen money, huge quantity of drugs and contraband from the 2702 detained outlaws in the last eight months, revealed the data collected by Business Recorder on Saturday.
In its campaign against illegal arms and ammunition police arrested 532 outlaws for possessing illegal arms and registered 493 cases. Police during the first eight months of the year 2010 recovered a huge catch of arms including 26 Kalashnikovs, 60 rifles, 20 guns of 12-bore, 423 pistols, 17 daggers, 220 magazines of different weapons and 12737 rounds of different caliber.
All four zones of Islamabad Police, including City Zone, Saddar Zone, Industrial Area Zone and Rural Zone have shown tremendous performance in the campaign. City Zone arrested 67 outlaws and recovered six rifles, three guns of 30-bore, 37 pistols, five daggers, ten magazines and 407 rounds. Saddar Zone arrested 244 outlaws, recovering 22 Kalashnikovs, 33 rifles, 23 guns of 30-bore, 195 pistols, five daggers, 205 magazines and 10749 rounds.
Industrial Area Zone of capital police arrested 67 outlaws and recovered from them two Kalashnikovs 16 rifles, 56 pistols, four daggers, five magazines and 537 rounds. The Rural Zone held 154 outlaws and recovered from them two Kalashnikovs, five rifles, six guns 30-bore, 135 pistols, three carbine rifles, three daggers, 1044 rounds.
The Islamabad Police have registered 35 murder cases, resultantly arresting 106 accused for their alleged involvement in these assassination cases. A total of 146 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in attempt to murder cases and 46 cases were challaned. Similarly, 404 persons were arrested in hurt cases, besides registering 121 cases.
Over 52 stolen vehicles and 10 motorcycles worth million of rupees were recovered and 83 car thieves were also arrested. Similarly, 196 tempered vehicles were also recovered and 89 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the business. Capital police also remained very much successful in busting the various gangs of kidnappers and recovered several kidnapped people from them. In all, 297 persons were arrested for their involvement in Zina/kidnapping cases.
Police also made significant recoveries in dacoities, theft and burglary cases and arrested a total of 321 criminals for their involvement in these cases. Valuables worth Rs 30 million were recovered from them. Islamabad police particularly its patrolling teams arrested 513 persons and recovered 299 kilogram hashish, 17 kilogram opium, 18 kilogram heroin, eight kilogram poppy and 48514 bottles of wine.
Following the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Bani Amin directed the officers from all zones of the capital police to intensify efforts to eradicate crime from the capital. Following the orders, 96 proclaimed offenders, 191 court absconders were arrested during the year. A total of 134 cases of fatal and non-fatal accidents were also reported and 97 persons were arrested.
Meanwhile, the IGP said that basic objective of police is to serve the people and ensure protection of the lives and property of the citizens. "This objective would be achieved at every cost through professional attitude as well as effective policing," he maintained. He said the performance of the Islamabad police has improved a lot and personnel of the force have been given task to focus on detection of crime and satisfy the public by resolving their grievances. The IGP lauded the role of capital police as the custodians of law and order.
