Speakers while addressing a seminar on "Increasing Heart Diseases and Media Responsibility" stressed the need for raising awareness about increasing heart diseases and said the media should play its role in this regard. Dr Shehryar Cardiologist, Dr Umer Chughtai Pathologist, Dr Shahid Hussain Cardiologist, Senior Journalist Syed Anwar Qadwai and Dr Samia addressed the seminar.
The seminar that was aimed at creating awareness among the citizen about the heart diseases was organised in connection with World Heart Day by Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) here on Saturday. A camp was also organised to provide the visitors with free tests.
Federal Parliamentary Secretary Azeem Doltana who was chief guest appreciated the step taken by PUJ for organising such a campaign for creating awareness among the masses. While commenting on media responsibility he said the government does provide freedom to media but media should ensure authenticity of information they deliver.
Dr Shehryar lamented that there is lack of awareness among the masses about this chronic disease and stressed the need for delivering proper information. He further said that heart diseases are the major cause of death throughout the world. The United Nation General Assembly is also holding a session going in September 2011 to discuss this issue only.
