Presidents of PML (N) Middle East and United Arab Emirates, Chaudhry Noor-ul-Hassan Tanveer and Chaudhry Altaf Hussain, met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and presented him a cheque for Rs 10 million for the relief and rehabilitation of flood affected people here Saturday.
Quaid PML-N Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was also present on this occasion. MNA former Justice Iftikhar Cheema presented a cheque of Rs 3.6 million, former MNA Mudassar Qayyum Nahra one million rupees and Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan presented a cheque for Rs 5,00,000 on behalf of the people of his constituency to the Chief Minister.
He said that the worst flood of country's history has caused vast devastation and it has affected 90 percent poorest of the poor and washed away several villages. He said that flood has also affected those people who used to lend support to other people but are now seeking our assistance. He said that reconstruction of ravaged villages has been started under the leadership of PML (N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and brick houses will be built with the co-operation of philanthropists and welfare organisations to provide modern housing facilities to the flood affectees.
He said that philanthropists have generously donated to his relief fund and so far more than one billion rupees have been donated to the fund which will be spent on the construction of modern villages. He said that local youth will be included in the construction of villages so that they could acquire skills and support their families. He said that distribution of cash aid has been started among the flood affectees in various districts and he himself is monitoring the distribution of Watan Cards. He said that elected representatives have also been deputed in various districts to ensure timely and transparent distribution of Watan Cards and provision of cash assistance to flood affectees.
He said that elected representatives and administration rendered valuable services during the relief work and now they will play an active role in the reconstruction programme. Chaudhry Noor-ul-Hassan Tanveer and Chaudhry Altaf Hussain also gave a donation of Rs 2 million to a welfare organisation Akhuwat. President PML-N Sharjah Azad Ali Tabassam, President PML-N Qatar Rashid Butt and President Overseas Pakistanis Sheikh Qaiser were also present on the occasion.
