Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt, accompanied by legal adviser Taffazul Rizvi, on Tuesday left for England to hold consultation with the legal team of UK to tackle the issue arising out of serving of notice to PCB by England and Wales Cricket Club (ECB) for levelling match fixing allegations on English players.
A PCB spokesman told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that this is an official visit of PCB chairman to England where he is going to meet lawyers in a bid to get cleared three Pakistani players of allegations of spot-fixing and fend off ECB's demand for an apology.
Sources claimed that PCB chairman would meet Elizabeth Robertson, British lawyer representing Pakistani players and the PCB over the spot-fixing allegations. He is also expected to meet Scotland Yard officials and Pakistani High Commissioner in London.
After the England players and Wales Cricket Board asked for an unreserved apology from PCB Chief, chances of his meeting with the ECB officials are remote, sources added. It may be noted that the ECB served a legal notice to PCB Chairman for giving a statement that 'there was a loud and high talk in the bookies' circle that English players threw away third ODI against Pakistan'. It may be recalled that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had suspended Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif on spot fixing charges and had asked them to reply to the suspension notices.
