The electricity shortfall between supply and demand has risen to 3,800MW after 500MW reduction in the hydel power generation and 500MW increase in demand despite relatively pleasant weather in plains of Punjab and northern parts of the country.
A spokeman of Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) said that electricity demand rose to 16,572MW against the production of 12,732MW, a short fall of 3,800MW, forcing the power distribution companies to prolonged loadshedding across the country.
He said that the hydel power generation fell to 5,667MW against the production of 6,200MW by Tarbela, Mangla, Ghazi Barotha, Warsak, Chashma and other hydel powerhouses. The thermal power generation units produced 2,122MW electricity whereas Independent Power Productions contributed 4,881MW and RPPs 62MW electricity to the national grid.
