The outgoing US Ambassador Anne W Petersen on Friday paid a farewell call on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Matters of mutual interest as well as relief and rehabilitation of floods victims were discussed in the meeting.
Senior Advisor Zulfiqar Khosa, Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Special Assistant Begum Zakia Shahnawaz and American Consul General Carmella Conroy were also present on the occasion. Shahbaz thanked US Ambassador for the relief assistance provided for the flood affectees and said that the heaviest floods in the country's history have caused large scale devastation.
He said that a number of villages have been washed away in Punjab and millions of people have been rendered homeless. He said that flood has adversely affected cotton, sugarcane, rice and other crops and the losses are estimated at Rs 82 to 90 billion.
