International Day for Older Persons was observed in various cities of the country like many other parts of the world with renewed pledge to give due respect and status to the elderly people. To mark the day different NGOs organised functions and highlighted the plight of elderly people.
In Lahore HelpAge Pakistan also organised a walk to raise awareness among the masses about rights of elderly people. The walk held from Jillani Park was participated by the Chairman S.U. Khan, PHA director Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, State Life former General Manager Abdul Ghafoor Naseem, Syeda Ghulam Fatima, Anjum Awam, showbiz personalities and people belonging to various segment of society. HelpAge Pakistan is intending to launch a project to find and arrange jobs for elderly people, retired from public and private institutions, to bring them back to work restoring their valuable role in national economy .
