After replacing the former two-phase registration plan, District Relief Committee Hyderabad has decided to conduct double shifts for registration of all IDPs either staying privately or at the relief camps. The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting here on Saturday at the DCO House, presided over by MNA and Chairman District Relief Committee Ameer Ali Shah Jamot.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister Zahid Ali Bhurgari, MPA Pir Amjad Hussain Shah Jilani, MPA Wasim Hussain, DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri, EDO Revenue Syed Burkat Ahmed Rizvi, DPO Munir Ahmed Shaikh and representatives of Nadra and PTCL. The decision has been taken as to ensure swift rehabilitation of the IDPs by speeding up the process of registration as well as issuance of Watan Cards being carried out by Nadra at Niaz Stadium where it has set up 22 counters for the purpose.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Ameer Ali Shah Jamot maintained that carrying out simultaneous registration at Niaz Stadium for IDPs staying at the relief camps and privately with their relatives was a formidable challenge. For that reason, it was decided that during the two-week long first phase about 60,000 IDPs residing at the relief camps would be registered, while in the second phase an estimated 40,000 IDPs staying privately would be covered, he added.
However, he said, now the same process would be performed in two shifts, whereby daily from 9 am to 5 pm IDPs staying privately would be registered at Niaz Stadium, while from 5 pm to 12 am those staying at the relief camps would be registered.
Provincial Minister Zahid Bhurgari while addressing the meeting denied any plans of relocating the registration point and said that Niaz Stadium was accessible for people coming or being brought from different remote areas of the district besides the facilities available there were difficult to ensure at other places.
The meeting was apprised that over 7,000 heads of families of IDPs had been registered so far while more than 2,700 flood-displaced people had obtained the Watan Cards. It was also informed during the meeting that about 4,000 flood affected people taking shelter in Hyderabad's relief camps have returned to their respective areas.
