Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource, Muhammad Ashraf Sohna has said that the present government is taking revolutionary steps for the welfare of the labour community. He said that the government is spending billions of rupees on economic, educational and social development of the workers from labour welfare fund.
Speaking at a function arranged to distribute grant cheques to workers of a mills here Saturday, the minister said government has enhanced basic pay of workers and ensured provision of educational stipends to the children of working class besides fixing quota of children of labour community in medical colleges. He urged the labour community to acquire social security cards so they could be eligible for getting all the benefits according to the law of the land.
Sohna announced that provincial government would bear the educational expenses of children of workers from primary to higher education, adding that this scheme has already been initiated in six districts of the province. He said government is providing medical facilities to the parents, kids and wives of workers, a grant of Rs 300,000 as grant on accidental death, Rs 70,000 on the occasion of marriage of daughter of any worker and providing facilities of homes in labour colonies.
The minister said 'they believe in educational and economic revolution instead of bringing a bloody revolution'. He said that only an educated and skilled society could guarantee a developed Pakistan. Member of National Assembly Sardar Saleem Haider, members of Punjab Assembly Malik Shahan Khan, Malik Khurram Ali Khan and various labour leaders also spoke on this occasion.
