The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) here on Wednesday disposed of a petition of a labourer challenging freezing of Zakat fund and its allocation for flood effected people as federal Zakat council had released funds in favour of provincial Zakat council.
The law officer however, informed the court that the said funds were not releasing and giving Zakat to people due to flood. CJ however, disposed of the petition observing that the chairman provincial Zakat council Former Justice Mian Allah Nawaz would get the needful done within two weeks after taking into consideration the condition of deserving people.
Kashif Mahmood through his counsel pleaded that he was a labourer and brother of five sisters and son of an old infirm mother. He said his family was living below the poverty line and had no choice except to seek financial assistance out of Zakat fund.
He said he filed an application to district chairman Zakat & Ushr who in return told him that Zakat would not be disbursed this year. He said provincial chairman Zakat & Ushr council had frozen Zakat funds as the same had been allocated to flood hit areas.
