The members of the National Assembly on Wednesday showed serious concern on Nato attacks inside Pakistan territory while opposition assured the government to stand behind it for defending the integrity and sovereignty of country. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) expressed grave concern on Nato's attacks inside Pakistan and raised some questions in the House to seek answers from the government.
While moving Adjournment Motion on Nato's attack, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafiq said has the government told the House from where the drone attacks are controlled? Did this government or Musharaf's government provide the facility drones attacks? Who had allowed Nato forces inside Pakistan?
Secondly, he said that the government should inform the House if there is any secret agreement or understanding with US government about drone attacks inside Pakistan. In his third question, he said has Pakistan forces any capability to stop these drone attacks? If the government has this ability then high officials should be removed from their position that could not defend the country, he said.
"The government should give comprehensive reply to these questions so that we can tell the people of Pakistan," he said. He said that the Prime Minister should windup debate on this issue not Foreign or Interior ministers. The government should also inform what measures have been taken for implementation on the report of Parliamentary Committee on National Security. He said that the government should give media access to war zone.
We must show unity for integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan, he said. "If the government did not give satisfactory answers then we will use other means like long march or mid-term election demand," he said. He said that Pakistani nation was facing worst dictatorship and a ferocious fight was going on between Musharraf and extremists in the name of the war on terrorism. He said that Musharraf imposed this war on the people of Pakistan but today there is a democratic set up and continuation of the attacks on Pakistani territory was shameful.
He said that the government should give road map to steer the country out of the prevailing crises. He said that Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik is not answerable to the nation being not elected, which is non-serious attitude of the government towards democracy. He said that the security agencies should brief the joint session of the Parliament and explain how much extremism has been reduced after Malakand and Swat operations. "We strongly oppose that only army has the right to prepare national security as it is responsibility of political leadership," he said.
Engineer Khurram Dastgir of PML-N said, "CIA escalates war on Pakistan" has been the news items in the British newspapers for the last few days. The drone attacks, this house should be very clear are not conducted by the US army, but by intelligence agency. He claimed that CIA is conducting secret war in Pakistan. He said that there are 3,000 CIA men in the country who are involved in this war.
He said that Nato forces conducted 10 drone attacks during Musharraf era while during the present government these forces have attacked 188 times. In September, Nato forces have conducted 22 drone attacks in Pakistan, he said. The secret CIA war inside Pakistan is undeniable and the government has failed to protect Pakistan territory except launching a meek protest. The Pakistan will be the theater of CIA if there is some policy of the government apart from launching protest, this House must be taken into confidence, he said.
Sherry Rehamn of PPP showed serious concern on Nato attack and said that all political leadership put their heads together and prepare strategy to take measures to protect the sovereignty of Pakistan. She said that US policy has totally failed in Afghanistan to win war against terrorism. Asif Hussnain, Onessa Reahman and others also spoke on this issue.
