Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal has said a criterion for promotions of Officers only on the basis of seniority is not right. "Deserving candidates should be considered on the basis of qualifications, dedication and honesty with their job," he said while addressing university officers at a reception arranged in his honour by Sindh University officers who were promoted recently.
The vice-chancellor said that promotions of officers in higher grades was their right but now they should prove their abilities and work with dedication. He said that it was tradition that senior people claim seniority for the promotion but they must realise the facts that promotion only on the basis of seniority was not enough in these competitive times.
He said that when he took charge as Vice Chancellor, many officers requested him that their promotions are due since long time. He said that he paid attention to problems of employees, promoted officers, resolved the issues of lower grade employees, which were also in pending since many years. He pointed out that SUTA recently has issued a circular related to its problems including promotions of faculty on hardship cases. He said that only it was him who initiated first the hardship cases in Vice Chancellor's Committee and same were sent to the Governor Sindh/Chancellor and added that hardship cases of promotions of faculty members would be placed before the syndicate in its next meeting.
The vice chancellor while highlighting demands of SUTA and others about 3rd phase pointed out that during last eight years more than 1400 acres land of the university was encroached but neither employees nor teachers voiced against encroachment on University land. The vice chancellor also expressed great concern on the bad conditions of hostels and shortage of water at hostels. He said that he had made a request to Vice Chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) for drinking water for the hostels and he assured 6 hour water from LUMHS water pipe line but during 3 months the engineering wing of the University has not completed the work on pipe line.
He said that it is responsibility of every employee to work with dedication for the betterment of the university for its up-gradation. He hoped that promoted officers of the university would work sincerely. Deans of various faculties, members of syndicate and all officers of the university attended the reception.
