Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that no flood tax was yet being imposed in the provice. Talking to newsmen after inspecting Watan Card issuance process here at Mehmood Stadium, he said 62,000 Watan-Cards would be distributed and five Modern Villages would be set up in district RY Khan. He said that, free seeds and fertilisers would be provided to the flood affected farmers in the district.
The Chief Minister said, on the appeal of mine and Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the philanthropists and donors have deposited Rs 1.1 billion donation for the assistance and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people.
"The Punjab government will establish modern villages for the flood-stricken people and would ensure transparency in utilisation of donations and its resources", he added. He lauded Pakistan Army, social organisations, police and people who took part in relief operations. He also appreciated the role of media in this regard.
Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, Jaffar Iqbal Gujjar, MPA Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique, district president PML-N Mian Khalid Shaheen, Commissioner Mushtaq Ahmed and RPO Abid Qadri of Bahawalpur were also present on the occasion.
