Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi has said the present democratic government is fully determined to look after the interest of all religious communities, adding that government would follow the policy of reconciliation to maintain interfaith harmony in the country.
He said that all sects would be given due share of representation in the state-run religious organisations and there would be no discrimination in this regard. He made these observations during a meeting with 5-member delegation of Shia Ulema of Multan led by Allama Nasir Abbas here on Wednesday.
The delegation informed the minister that government should provide security to processions during Aashoora rather than imposing limitations. They also expressed concern over the curriculum of Islamiat in the schools and colleges. They also sought Shia representation in the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and Islamic Ideology Council. The minister agreed to make a curriculum committee in consultation with M/O Education and asked the Shia Ulema to identify shortcomings in the present syllabus.
The minister informed the delegation that due to prevailing terror activities and security risk some preventive measures have been taken by the government to impose some limitations. He stressed the Shia Ulema to cooperate in this regard. He also assured them about the representation of Shia Sects in Rue-e-Hilal Committee and Islamic Ideology Council for which the delegation thanked the minister.-PR
