The Pakistan Parkinson's Society (PPS) and Pakistan Neurological Society (PNS) jointly organised a seminar at the Jinnah Hospital recently. The seminar was titled, "Parkinsons ka ilaj, Dawa aur Dua kay Saath" and was one of the series of seminars, which the PPS and PNS are planning to organise under the concept of "Bharpur Zindagi".
The objectives of these seminars are to increase awareness about the Parkinson disease and ways to manage the disease in order to live and enjoy a better quality life. Prominent doctors and medical experts provided great insights and highlighted ways to successfully manage this disease.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Shaukat Ali, Chairman PNS said that due to lack of facilities, healthcare providers are unable to come up with right diagnosis and hence are unable to prescribe latest modalities. He emphasised the need of a holistic approach and mass awareness on part of both health care providers and health care seekers for bringing in proper compliance and understanding of the disease.
Other speakers included Haroon Basheer (Chairman PPS) and Salman Shareef who shared their experiences as Parkinson patients and stressed on the importance of managing this disease so as to improve their quality of life. Dr Syeda, a speech therapist talked about how patient's speech can be improved and showed exercises on how to improve swallowing etc and other techniques to improve one's speech. Finally, Omar Iftikhar, a speech therapist demonstrated an exercise in meditation.-PR
