The remarks of former President Pervez Musharraf that Pakistan trained underground militant groups to fight against India in Kashmir have come under scathing criticism in Pakistan. Chairman Parliamentary Committee on National Security Mian Raza Rabbani condemned Musharraf's statement.
He said India's reaction to the statement shows that Musharraf has become a security risk to the state of Pakistan and in his effort to further his personal agenda he is ready to put vital national interest at stake.
This, Rabbani added, will be part of the agenda of the next meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. Raza Rabbani rebutted Musharraf's statement as a figment of his imagination. Pakistan has always supported the indigenous struggle of the Kashmiri people, diplomatically, morally and on grounds of enforcement of UN resolutions. During his illegal tenure as President of Pakistan Musharraf damaged the Kashmir cause beyond repair in order to please his Western masters so as to perpetuate his personal power, Rabbani added.
Lieutenant General Amjad Shoaib (Retd), a defence analyst, strongly reacted to Musharraf's statement and said it was not in the interest of the country. This statement is tantamount to tarnishing the image of Pakistan as a peaceful nation in the international community. He further remarked that the person who has served the country at any key post must not be allowed to disclose any secret after leaving the post for some time. This disclosure, he added, may damage the Kashmir cause.
