The Government of Japan has decided to extend a financial support of US $103,427 (approximately Rs 8.6 million) to Lok Sanjh Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, for the provision of mobile health services project in the rural area of Tehsil Fateh Jang, Attock, Punjab.
The agreement for the project was signed on Thursday at the Japanese Ambassador's residence between Chihiro Atsumi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Dr Farzana Shahid, Executive Director, Lok Sanjh Foundation. The grant will be utilised for the procurement of two Mobile Health Units containing with medical equipment for the medical teams. This will enable the team to provide mobile medical services to the residents in thirty villages of Fateh Jang regularly. In addition, training and education materials will be provided to the residents for enhancing their knowledge of hygiene and basic health.
At present, this remote area is deprived of basic medical facilities due to the shortage of doctors, nurses, and medicines. Consequently, the patients have to go to a distant hospital for basic medical treatments, which cost them time and great expenses. Many poor people, particularly women, give up getting the medical treatments under these challenging circumstances.
Through this project, about 48,000 residents in the area will be provided with the facility to easily approach and consult with the doctor at a reasonable rate. At the same time, through health education, people will improve their health condition by learning how to prevent diseases and to maintain healthy lifestyle, etc.
Ambassador Atsumi stressed that ensuring primary health care services is one of the priorities in Japan's assistance policy towards Pakistan. He also expressed his hope that this project would help promote health condition of the residents in and around the project area and contribute to further strengthening the existing friendly relations between the people of Japan and Pakistan.-PR
