Karachi Police will establish Industrial Crime Detective Unit (ICDU) to curb crime from industrial areas, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi, Fayyaz Laghari informed business community here on Thursday. Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Thursday, he said beside ICDU, a Compliance Response Centre (CRC) was also being established in industrial area for speedy response and disposal of cases in order to eliminate crimes from industrial areas.
He said that the CRC would operate in co-ordination with Karachi Police, Rangers and KATI and crimes would be curbed with the joint efforts. He assured industrialists that he would stay in touch with members of trade and industry associations and hold regular meetings with them and discuss issues pertaining to law and order situation.
Referring to crimes like kidnapping for ransom and threat calls, he said a plan has been made which would be discussed with business community in the near future. Laghari said that efforts have been made to improve process of investigation quick so that the criminals could not benefit from lacunas in investigation.
He also advised business community to install close circuit cameras in front of their factories and offices to monitor and provide footage in case of any crime to present before the court. The camera would also help eliminate crimes to a great extent, he added.
He further said that 915 would be made operative so that complaints against traffic violation and traffic police help should be made on this phone number. Chairman, KATI, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari said that the industrialists were extremely worried about increasing street crimes particularly robberies in Karachi Industrial areas. He said that robberies at factories, mobile phone and vehicles snatching, kidnapping for ransom and encroachments have created a sense of insecurity among the industrialists.
He demanded of the CCPO to evolve an effective strategy to curb crime. The Chief Patron, KATI, S M Muneer, advised the government to strengthen police department in order to curb crime from the country. He declared that ministers were not the special human beings who require bullet-proof vehicles at the cost of public funds. He said that the whole world was making the mockery of Pakistani ministers for raising this demand. He pointed out the example of a poor country like Mozambique where president and prime minister move with a couple of security guards and without latest weapons.
He said that government should improve its intelligence system to nip the evil in the bud. He further said that despite all difficulties, business community was runningt their businesses in the country to provide employment to the poor masses. He said that without bringing investment in the country people would not be able to get jobs. And to attract investors, law and order should be restored, he maintained.
