The world renowned Japanese management expert Toshi Aki Nakamura said the Pakistani businessmen have a great potential to bring the country on the path of growth and development and urged them to keep abreast with the modern technology and the new production techniques being practised in the developed industrial world.
He was addressing the concluding session of a five-day training programme on "Lean Manufacturing" organised by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), in collaboration with National Productivity (NPO) and Asian Productivity Organisation, Japan (APO) here on Thursday. He appreciated the role being performed by Smeda and said the local industrialists should send their floor managers abroad at their own to gain awareness on the modern productivity techniques.
Toshi, while sharing his views regarding the Pakistan's visit, said that he had an entirely different picture about Pakistan before coming to this country. "But, while interacting with the people during first five-day training programme on the Lean Manufacturing, I cam to know that the country as well as the people of Pakistan are very nice", he said. "The moment I came into Lahore and started second round of my training programme, I was bound to believe that Pakistan is a country of very friendly nation, added.
The Smeda Deputy General Manager, Industry Support Cell, Fayyaz Riaz, speaking on the occasion apprised the participants about achievements made by his cell on energy conservations with the support of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA). He assured to call back Toshi on a longer-term visit to Pakistan next time through JICA. Toshiaki Nakamura, having more than 40 years of experience in the field of Productivity and Quality Management, had successfully implemented Lean Manufacturing Projects in USA, Thailand, Mexico and Japan, he added.
Alamdar Hussain Bajwa, as a representative of the participants, called for repeating this programme in future as well and acknowledged that the programme would help participants enhance productivity of their units reducing the cost to a minimal level. As many as 32 senior executives of the top class industrial groups including Nestle, Hush Puppies, Millat Industrial Products Limited, Ittehad Chemicals, Pakistan Tobacco Company, Nishat Mills, Motorola Pakistan, Crescent Textile Mills, Packages, ICI paints and Services Industries attended the session.
