When it comes to the UN General Assembly session, hopes are always attached that some support from other countries and statements from the UN would bring a change - a hope for Kashmiri people. This time again the UN has given a very positive statement of 'getting tough with India'.
The US has also sent a message to 'Fix Kashmir and get the UN seat'. The present scenario in the region also demands that issues of volatile nature, which are capable to disturb peace, should be handled on a priority basis. Kashmiri is an issue, which is creating unrest among its people. They are fighting for freedom. Hunderds of thousands have died in the years and suffered. But the struggle continues and the new generation also carries the same message of freedom.
How long Indian authorities are going to suppress the movement and keep the world unaware of the atrocities being committed by Indian occupation forces? The open wounds of Kashmiris are a question to the UN and the powerful nations, who think that they are capable enough to use their influence and authority to make India understand that freedom to Kashmiris is their right.
Recognising the issue and supporting the Kashmiris is not enough. The first step is to stop the brutalities of the occupation Indian forces and assurance to Kashmiris that their problems would be solved. As a second step, a UN mission should immediately visit Kashmir with an agenda to discus practical steps to be taken for the freedom of the Kashmiris. It is not an easy job and not a one day affair. If the world is really concerned, then it should organise its efforts and come forward with viable measures, so that the issue is resolved.
