Murtaza Abbas has taken over as the new Chief Financial Officer at Siemens Pakistan with effect from 1st October 2010.He replaces Gerhard Wilcke who retired after eight years of meritorious service to the company. 34 years old Murtaza Abbas has a distinguished career both in the academic and practical fields.
He is a Chartered Accountant besides being a member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK and a Certified Financial Consultant from Institute of Financial Consultants, USA. He also holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from IBA Karachi and has attended Executive Development Programme at Stanford University USA.
Murtaza Abbas joined Siemens in May 2003 and within a month of his six month orientation the company recognising his talents appointed him as Deputy General Manager and within six months he was promoted to General Manager and Commercial Head of Automation and Drives Division. In April 2007 he was elevated to the position of Divisional Director in IA/DT and in this position he achieved significant success including sustained implementation of business restructuring proposal 'New Manufacturing Concept'. His Leadership was instrumental in the Turn around of A&D business (A loss making unit in 2003), tremendous improvement of ROCE for A&D Pakistan besides other achievements.
It was under his vision that A&D received its first Billionaire BU Award in 2005. In June 2008, Abbas was appointed as Industry Sector Cluster Controller for West Asia Cluster which he relinquished in October 2008 for taking over international assignment at Corporate Finance Reporting (CFR 6) where he was responsible for Shareholder Controlling for Middle East cluster excluding Pakistan on behalf of Siemens A.G.
Throughout his career with Siemens, Abbas has not only preached but also practised the importance of value creation through Human Resource Development. He is somebody who believes and exhibits that providing and maintaining a learning environment is the best recipe for sustainable business results.
Key accomplishments of Murtaza Abbas include his selection as one of the "TOP 25" Talents within BRIC & ME countries in October 2009, his identification as one of the top talents from Siemens Pakistan in 2007 and his Membership of Global Emerging Leader Forum (GELF) in the Siemens World in 2006.
