Dr Wasim Kauser Inspector General National Highways and Motorway Police has said overloaded vehicles are a danger not only to the drivers, but also to all other vehicles travelling on the roads with them. Overloading and improperly loaded trucks is a leading cause of road accidents in the Pakistan.
While inspecting the N-5 Central zone Lahore Dr Wasim Kauser said overloaded trucks pose a very serious danger on national highway. The vehicles have more weight than its capacity, stopping is much more difficult, and the truck is much more likely to get out of control when swerving to avoid a collision or an animal in the road. He further said overloaded trucks could damage the brake and steering system of the truck. An overweight truck is an accident waiting to happen, and when trucks are involved in accidents, the results could be catastrophic and deadly due to their massive size and weight.
The IG directed the officials to ensure strict implementation against over loading on the gear up their efforts to further minimise the accident ratio and facilitate the road users on highways and perform their duties with dedication and devotion for this purpose. He directed the officers to make all possible efforts to reduce over loading.
The IG hailed the performance of the police officers saying that the consistent commitment demonstrated by the officers in providing services to road users was highly commendable and asked them to more work hard for uninterrupted, safe and clear passage for traffic and ensure safe journey. He said that the NH&MP has earned a good repute owing to friendly attitude of its officials towards commuters. He advised them to perform their duties while realising it sacred to sustain the image of the department.
