Intelligence agencies have informed the government that there might be terror attacks on polling stations during the by-election in PS 94. This was disclosed by Brigadier Wasim Ayub, Commander, Sachal Rangers, who was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police South-Zone Sultan Ali Khawaja at Sindh Rangers Sports Complex, North Nazimabad.
He said the intelligence agencies have forewarned about threats of terror attacks during by-election at one of the polling station in the town. Section 144 of Cr.PC has been imposed in the city as part of security measures, he added. He said around 1,100 rangers jawans and 2,000 police personals would be deployed at inside and outside of the polling stations to avoid any untoward incident. He said five Pakistan Rangers jawans (three inside the polling station and two at entry gate) would be deployed for security of each polling station, he said.
The entire constituency has been divided into sectors and the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and 70 mobiles would be patrolling in the area. In addition, 50 bike-riding personnel would also patrol in the area. Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) would launch search operation of the area before the start of the polling, he said.
He said there would be complete ban on pillion riding during the election's time and LEAs would conduct snap checking in the area. He said there are total 86 polling stations and 22 have been identified as most sensitive. A Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) assisted by 15 policemen would be monitoring the situation at each polling station. No unconcerned persons would be allowed to enter the polling stations," the Commander added.
Speaking on the occasion, DIGP South-Zone, Sultan Ali Khawaja, said the police have arrested 10 suspected people around polling stations. Police in plain clothes would also be positioned outside each polling station, the DIGP said. Terming by-elections for PS 94 sensitive, he Orangi Town has already been most sensitive area for law and order situation and by-polls in town required special arrangements. "Special Force (SF) of Sindh Police put on standby and could be called in case of any emergency," the DIGP concluded.
