A Participatory Development Initiative (PDI) non-government organisation with the support of Oxfam GB has celebrated Global Hand Washing Day in IDPs camps at Shikarpur. According to the press statement issued from PDI House on Monday, the PDI celebrated Hand Washing Day to create awareness among the IDPs in the camp and developed a habit among them that they washed their hands and keep clean neat their atmosphere to protect themselves from the diseases.
District Health Officer Aga Sanaullah was chief guest in the ceremony, PDI staff and large numbers of children IDPs participated. Aga Sanaullah lauded the efforts of the PDI and Oxfam holding thus type of ceremonies to create awareness among the IDPS regarding hygienic health education involving children and women to save them from the skin and other diseases.
He added that children developing wash hand practice not only save from diarrhea and other Wash-related diseases especially from the respiratory diseases. He welcomed the civil society groups saying that local administration could not alone provide all the health and hygienic facilities to large numbers of IDPs children.
In his welcome address PDI Programme Manager in Shikarpur, Sajad Kandahar said that PDI with the support of Oxfam GB - under the Programme Emergency Food Security facilities, would provide facilities to around 11,000 flood affected families in taluka Shikarpur and Khanpur. He added that PDI had constructed 330 toilets, 160 washrooms, installed 600 hand pumps and distributed 8000 hygienic kits, and held session of advocacy on hygienic in different camps located in Shikarpur and Khanpur.
He added that PDI with the support of Oxfam GB, distributed cheque of Rs 5000 among per family among 8000 families. PDI constructed 62 laundry spaces that IDPs women wash and clean their clothes. PDI is providing 100,000-gallon potable water to IDPS in the camps daily basis apart from this PDI had installed 35 water tanks in the camps. He added that PDI had repaired 38 water pumps, which were installed by the government but were out of order.
Later IDPs children took out a huge rally, marching in different streets, taking banners and play cards in their hands in which slogans were inscribed to keep and clean the camps and wash hands daily to save from the skin and other diseases. In the end of the ceremony IDPs children performed tableau in which IDPs children imparted message regarding clean camps, wash hands and clean toilets daily.-PR
