Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Ms Sharmila Farooqui has said that Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, an international political observer and daughter of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, has raised Rs 15 crores of funds, which will be provided to utility stores to prepare relief food packets for the flood affected people.
She said this while speaking at a ceremony held here on Monday after inaugurating the flood relief camp organised the Save the Flood and Disaster Victims, an NGO. Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was also present on the occasion. She said Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari is the chairperson of this NGO and added that she had recently visited Pakistan, raised Rs 15 crores of funds for the flood victims and spent a lot of time in the relief operation.
Sharmila said that floods had destroyed millions of houses and damaged crops standing on millions of acres across the country. However, relief and rehabilitation process is in full swing. She said that initial aid of Rs 20,000 is also being provided to each flood hit family while the free seed and fertiliser will also be provided to farmers for growing new crops in flood hit areas. Rs 100,000 will also be provided for the houses destroyed by the floods in the country, she added.
The advisor said relief and rehabilitation of flood-hit people is the responsibility of the government, which is a big challenge to both the government and the nation. She asked the certain political parties to come forward and help flood affected people in true spirit instead of indulging in baseless propaganda against the government.
The advisor said the present government is committed to serve flood victims on priority basis and ensure their safe return to their native places despite facing challenges in view of present situation. She said all out efforts are being made to provide constant relief aid and health facilities to the flood victims.
Sharmila said the PPP government is striving for redressing the grievances of the poor people at all costs. "It is the mission of the PPP to serve the down-trodden people as per the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. It is also a mission of the PPP government to ensure durable peace and stable democracy in the country for the prosperity of people, she concluded.
