Secretary School Education Punjab, Muhammad Aslam Kamboh has said that due to the destruction of houses, crops and livestock in the flood-affected rural areas, women of these areas are facing social and financial crises. The rehabilitation process cannot be completed without prioritising welfare of women of these areas.
Kamboh expressed these views while addressing the second session of two-day workshop on "gender concerns during flood-emergency", held under the aegis of Gender Group of School Education department in collaboration with Unicef and DFID. The Secretary School Education said women are the nucleus of our social life. In particular, they plays a central role to improve the domestic economy; work side by side in fields with males and is also responsible for the care of domestic livestock.
Recent floods have increased the financial grievances of rural women, especially the destruction of cotton crop has badly affected their earnings as they have lost the opportunity of cotton pricking for gaining money for purchase of livelihood. Kamboh stressed to formulate comprehensive recommendation for the rehabilitation of flood-affected areas keeping in view the problems of women.
Muqaddisa Mehreen, Addl. Secretary Education Izhar Ahmed, Qaiser Rasheed and representatives from Sindh province and Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa also spoke on the occasion. They said the children of flood-hit areas are suffering from psychological problems. They said there is a dire need to impart special training to teachers for enabling them teach the students keeping in view their psychological issues.
