Assets, liabilities statements: ECP restores membership of 16 Parliamentarians
Chief Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) former Justice Hamid Ali Mirza has restored the membership of 16 Parliamentarians. The ECP official told Business Recorder that membership of as many as 125 Parliamentarians is suspended so far.
He said that the Chief Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday restored the membership of four members of the National Assembly, seven of Punjab Assembly, four of Sindh Assembly and one of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly after submission of their statements of assets and liabilities.
The National Assembly members who filed their assets statements are including Atta-ur-Rehman, Maulan Fazl-ur-Rehman, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah and Faqir Muhmmad Jadam Mangrio. Punjab Assembly members are including Raja Tariq Kiani, Rai Muhmmad Aslam Khan, Ahmed Hussain Deharr, Malik Nosher Khan Lungerial, Sahibzada M Gazain Abbasi, Humaira Awais Shahid and Nazma Jawad Hashmi.
Similarly, members of Sindh Assembly whose membership have been restored are Syed Pir Amir Ali Shah, Syed Khalid Ahmed, Fayaz Ali Butt, Shamim Ara Pahwar and Sarda Hussain of KPK. He said that the membership would remain suspended until the members submit the required details.
There are 30 members of the National Assembly, 62 members of Punjab Assembly, 12 members of the Sindh Assembly, 9 members from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and 12 members from the Balochistan Assembly whose membership is still suspended. The ECP official said that 4 Senators did not submit their assets statement so far.
However, the official said it was the authority of Election Commission of Pakistan to suspend the membership of Senators not of Chief Election Commission of Pakistan. He said that ECP comprises five members including Chief Election Commission of Pakistan. He said that each member out of four is taken from the four provinces. He said that ECP is not completed so far. After passage of the 18th Amendment the procedure of the appointment of the members has been changed. The appointment could not be made because the 18th Amendment has been challenged in the Apex Court. He said that the suspended members would not be able to participate in assembly sessions till the submission of the required details of their assets.
