The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Tuesday sought report till November 10 from Managing Director (MD) Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), ministry of Defence and federal secretary transport in a petition praying for implementation of 50 percent discount on air, railways and other local travel for handicapped promised by the president of Pakistan in 2009.
The petitioner Afzal Humayyun, a local citizen, told the court that on 30 December 2009, President of Pakistan speaking on the occasion of International Day for Disabled persons had made an announcement that there will be 50 percent discount in travel fare for handicapped persons in PIA, Railway and rest of the public transport but he said the promise made by the president of the country has not been materialised till now. The announcement by President Asif Ali Zardari for discount in fare had kindled a ray of hope in the handicapped persons across the country but now they are disappointed, as it remained just a hollow slogan for them, the petitioner said.
