A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday adjourned to October 25 the hearing of seven identical appeals of Sharif family against attachment of Sharif brothers' properties and shares by NAB after punishment by accountability courts in 2001 as counsel for Sharif brothers could not appear before the court.
In appeal petitions Sharif family submitted that the NAB was not releasing their properties which it seized in 2001 to recover fine imposed on PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif by an accountability court and an anti-terrorism court in plane hijacking and purchase of a Russian helicopter cases. The appeals were filed by Shahbaz Sharif, Sabina Abbas, daughter of Mian Abbas for recovery of papers of Hudabiya Paper Mills, Hudabiya Engineering Services, Chaudhry Sugar Mills, Ramzan Sugar Mills and Hamza Spinning Mills and the said companies' shares from custody of NAB.
In the appeals the Sharif family submitted that the conviction was set aside by Supreme Court on October 30, 2000 but despite repeated applications the NAB was not releasing their seized properties and resorted to coercive measures against them.
