An application has been filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) against President Asif Ali Zardari contending that respondent suffers from a pre-election disqualification owing to his bad reputation. AK Dogar of Pakistan Lawyers Forum (PLF) filed the application submitting that when Benazir Bhutto was prime minister Asif Ali Zardari acquired a bad reputation of "Mr Ten Percent" and the reputation has now become world wide.
The court will take up the matter on October 21. He said "article 62(1)(d) & (E)) of the constitution of Pakistan have mandated that a person shall not be qualified to be elected as member parliament unless he is of good character and is a honest person."A huge sum of 60 million dollars was taken away from Pakistan and deposited in Swiss bank and proceedings were continuing against him until the cases was closed on a letter written by the then attorney general of Pakistan Abdul Qayyaum.
He said under article 62(1)(d) & (E)) (f)) read with sub article 2 of the constitution of Pakistan suffers from inherit pre-election disqualification hence he can be required to show under what authority of law he held the office of president of Pakistan.A full bench of the Lahore High Court has already started ex-parte proceedings on the petition seeking disqualification of President Asif Ali Zardari for holding office of Co-Chairperson of the PPP simultaneously.
