Closing stock market indices
Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Thursday.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 6611.01 points, up 86.46 or 1.33 percent.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3878.27 points, up 50.12 or 1.31 percent.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 6512.19 points, up 34.99 or 0.54 percent.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The FT IT All Share index closed at 22165.78 points, up 190.76 or 0.87 percent.
MELBOURNE STOCKS EXCHANGE: Australian stocks ended almost unchanged as strength in retailer Wesfarmers, gaming firm Tabcorp and miners was offset by weakness in banks. The S&P/ASX 200 index lost 2 points to 4,622.9, after initially opening 0.7 percent higher.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South African stocks notched their second straight day of gains, in line with global equities on upbeat economic data and corporate results. The All-share index closed at 30439.46 points, up 358.96 or 1.19 percent. The All Gold index closed at 2513.17 points, down 13.29 or 0.53 percent, while the Industrial index closed at 25538.55 points, up 402.01 or 1.60 percent.
