Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has arrived in Portugal where he is scheduled to sign deals with the government and local companies, including the purchase of 1.5 million low-cost laptops. Venezuela has already bought 850,000 of the Portuguese-built computers designed for young schoolchildren.
Portugal has pioneered developments in renewable power, and officials say Chavez is also expected to ink a green-energy agreement with the government.
Contracts for Portuguese companies to supply prefabricated homes and cargo ships to Venezuela are also on the agenda for Chavez's daylong visit to northern Portugal on Sunday. The Venezuelan leader is on the final leg of a trip which has included stops in Iran, Syria and Libya.
