Industrialists have urged the government to conduct survey to ascertain exact figure of cotton production in the country to have a complete picture of cotton production figures. Talking to Business Recorder, Chairman Federal B. Area Association of Trade and Industry (FBAATI), Mohammad Irfan said that textile industry was working without authentic statistic of cotton production in the country.
He said that after getting authentic figure of cotton production, it could be determined that how much cotton is available for exports after meeting the requirements of local industry. Without authentic statistic of production, export of cotton may cause the local textile industry to face serious crisis.
Expressing concern over increasing cotton prices in the country, he said that textile industry is already facing crisis due to gas and electricity load shedding, high cost of borrowing from banks and high production cost. He was of the view that Pakistan must export value-added cotton products and yarn for ultimate benefit of the country.
