Despite suicide bombings at Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine this month, the provincial government seems reluctant to adopt precautionary measures at the shrines in the city for avoiding such incidents in future. Amid threats to shrines by terrorist groups, neither the home department nor the Auqaf department are ready to own the responsibility of security for shrines where a large number of devotees visit so frequently.
There are some 79 shrines in the city. Among them, three are in Lyari, five in Clifton, 14 in Jamshaid Town, 18 in Keamari Town and 39 in Saddar. All these shrines are situated in the southern part of the city. Shrines of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Zinda Peer, Peer Bukhari Shah, Misri Shah Baba and Samandri Baba are located in Clifton Town.
Shrines of Masoom Shah Bukhari, Qasim Shah Bukhari, Moulana Shafi Okarwai, S Muhammad Akram Shah, Fareed ud din Qadri, Baba Miran Shah Bukhari, Baba Runaq Ali Shah, Baba Masoom Shah Bukhari, Syed Badruddin Zinda Shah, Saeed Baba Karam Ali Shah, Mastaan Shah, Syed Arab Shah Bukhari, Syed Jabar Shah, Hazrat Soofi Sardar Khan, Hazrat Yaqoob Shah, Astan-e-Punj Tan, Qutab Alam Shah, Peer Zahir Shah Baba, Chaman Shah Dargah, Dargah Bibi Mai Lunji, Muhammad Shah Bukhari, Syed Jamal Shah Bukhari, Syed Masoom Shah Bukhari, Syed Ibrahim Shah Bukhari, Faqeer Qadir Shah, Hassan Shah, Noor Ali Shah, Qaraar Shah Baba, Syed Noor Shah Ghazi, Baba Bhoorah Shah, Qaraar Shah, Chuttan Shah Ghazi, Qausar Baba, Maskeen Shah Bukhari, Hassan Shah Bukhari, Hassan Shah Baba Ghazi, Peer Roashan Shah Baba and Peer Shah Mubarak Ghazi are in Saddar.
Shrines of Haji Ghaib Shah, Amma Mariyam, Yousuf Shah Bukhari, Haji Ibrahim Shah, Baba Qasim Shah, Abdullah Shah Ashabi, Qasim Ali Shah, Roshan Shah, Ghulam Shah Baba, Syed Ali Sarmast, Syed Dad Karim, Syed Karim Dad Shah, Rajab Ali Jalali Qadri, Shah Hussain Noorani, Peer Taqi Shah, Syed Rehmatullah, Taqi Shah Chacha Baba and Peer Ahmed Jan Sarhandi are in Keamari Town. Shrines of Bibi Miran Peer, Gharib Shah and Noshahi Baba are in Lyari Town.
In Jamshaid Town, there are shrines of Juman Shah, Masoom Shah, Ibrahim Shah, Mehtab Shah Bukhari, Roshan Shah, Haider Shah Baba, Dawal Shah Bukhari, Muslim Shah Bukhari, Syed Noor Shah Baba, Ibrahim Shah Bukhari, Bachal Shah Bukhari, Dabay Shah, Mehmood Shah Bukhari and Idrees Baba. It is learnt that the home department has asked Sindh Auqaf Department to install CCTV cameras, walkthrough gates besides deployment of private security guards at shrines. The home department has also written a letter to the Auqaf Department for arrangement of gadgets at shrines for security.
