Newly elected president Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Asma Jahangir said that she would not take dictation from anyone as neither she is afraid of judges, nor generals or rulers. "The relations with all these institutions or authorities will be established on the basis of equality. They will be respected if they will respect us," she said while talking to media persons at Lahore high Court premises here on Thursday.
Dispelling the impression that she is against the judiciary, Asma said she had decades old relations with judiciary and the propaganda in this regard should be shunned. She said, "I believe in independence of judiciary and had paid price for the cause in the past when she along with thousands of people were thrown in jail."
She had been knocking the door of judiciary even when it was not independent. She pointed out that they were gone to jail by choice and are ready to go again for the noble cause. She said vilification campaign was launched and in such circumstance her victory was a great success. She said lawyers could differentiate between right and wrong. She strongly believed in freedom of press because it would ensure protection of people's rights.
