The government has appointed Sher Muhammad Khan Director General (DG) Petroleum Concession (PC) and Saeedullah Shah DG Gas, Business Recorder has learnt. Sher Muhammad Khan was working earlier as acting DG Gas after Mansoor Muzaffar was appointed as Member Gas in Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).
Khan had been working as Director in PC for a long time. Saeedullah Shah was working earlier as DG Admin. Petroleum Minister Syed Naveed Qamar had interviewed four candidates for the post of DG PC as that position was lying vacant after Naeem Malik became Managing Director (MD) Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
Three directors in Petroleum Ministry - Sher Muhammad Khan, Shahab Alam, Muhammad Azam and DG Admin Saeedullah Shah - were tipped for the post of new DG PC. Sources maintained that in Petroleum Ministry, many senior officers had been denied promotion to the post of DG on grounds that no non-technical official can become DG as per existing rules.
Well-informed sources told Business Recorder that a file was moved to Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) to remove bar for non-technical officials from becoming DG. "FPSC had sought comments from Petroleum Ministry but the inquiry got nowhere due to the lobby of technical staff," sources said.
