Compensation to families of targeted killings: Sindh Assembly adopts two identical resolutions
The Sindh Assembly passed two identical resolutions for paying compensation to the families of those killed in targeted killings in Shershah scrap market and other parts of the metropolis from October 14 to 19.
The provincial assembly, which met here on Friday with the Acting Speaker, Shehla Raza, passed these resolutions unanimously. First resolution was moved by MQM MPA Syed Khalid Ahmed which read as: "The House condemns the barbarian act of extortionist against innocent shopkeepers of Kabari Bazar Shershah on October 19 which resulted in killing of thirteen people within ten minutes and resolves for compensation of those who lost their lives and got injured in this tragic incident."
The second resolution was moved by PPP MPA and Minister for Katchi Abadis, Eng. Rafiq Ahmed Advocate, and read as: "This House condemns the brutal killings of innocent people in the city of Karachi on the basis of ethnicity, specially 14 to 19 October in whole Karachi and their families be compensated."
Taking part in the debate on the resolution, MQM MPA Faisal Sabzwari said that it was responsibility of the government to protect the life and property of the people without any discrimination. Provincial Law Minister Ayaz Soomro said that government was taking all out measures to maintain peace in the city.
He said that the government was devising various means to tackle law and order problem. Sindh Senior Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq said that PPP has all regards for MQM and other political parties and condemned the killing of innocent people on ethnic grounds.
